Obituary of Logan M. Smith-Carlos

Smith-Carlos, Logan M., age 16, of Hamburg, New York passed away June 11, 2019 at 3:05 PM. He was the son of Stephanie Smith. Brother of Tristan Smith-Carlos. Grandson of Gale Carlos. Nephew of Brooker Logan (Ako) Smith III, Erica (Ross) Goddard and Ron Carlos (Ricardo). Cousin of Paige and Perrin Goddard. He is also survived by a loving extended family of great aunts, uncles and cousins. Logan was a sophomore at Hamburg High School. He had a passion for the earth, environment and every single creature he encountered big and small. He wanted to become a marine biologist to study the oceans, conservationism, dolphins, wildlife and make a difference in the world. He had his black belt in Tae Kwon Do, had a huge love of music and was a fierce protector of his older brother. He also struggled with anxiety, OCD and depression, which ultimately contributed to his death. It is his family's desire that Logan's story help break the stigma of mental illness and help provide resources to others who might be locked in their own internal battle to have the courage to reach out and find the help they need. Logan chose to give the ultimate gift of organ donation, which will help to save lives, restore vision and contribute to the medical care of others. Family and friends called at the DONALD M. DEMMERLEY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 21 Pierce Avenue, Hamburg on Friday, June 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service was held at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 5017 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jed Foundation or UNYTS.
