As tears flowed, fond memories came…of such a kind, patient person! For 15 years we worked together in the assessor’s office, through the tough days… and through many, many wonderful days. She was always the first in the office and my day always began with a genuine “Good morning, Joan!” We learned together, worked together, and shared favorite stories together. .. I remember her “Sarge,” the bossy hummingbird that tried to keep the feeder all for himself. And the cawing crows that came to her old backyard tire, where she tossed in scraps of food for them. ..Or the pesky squirrels at her bird feeder…and sharing recipes, cooking ideas, and of course, those wonderful grilling tips her Dave had gleaned from years of effort! And everyone in the town hall looked forward to Christmas, when Joan made her mouth watering chocolate candies. Her work in the office was meticulous; the once unkempt files transformed under her diligent and careful eyes to orderly, legible records. Year after year she neatly kept the records, answered endless phone calls and always greeted everyone pleasantly. And for me, there was one very special part of Joan that I will always remember…her kindness. Through some troubled times she would listen patiently to me, offer kind words and a warm hug…never a criticism, never a condemnation, always patience, kindness, and caring. My friend Joan, I miss you. May God take you into His Divine Light and may you rest peacefully in His Kingdom.
