Obituary of Marie T. Hoelscher

Marie Theresa (Weidner) Hoelscher

Hamburg, New York

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie, age 91, on July 17, 2023. She was born on Oct. 26, 1931, daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Weidner, grew up in Armor, New York and graduated from Hamburg High School.  She was predeceased by her husband James, her son Michael, her brothers Fran, Bert, Jerry and her sister Barbara.  Marie and James had 3 children: Anne, Katherine (Kevin Marczak) and Michael (Joanne Perotta).

Marie is survived by her six grandchildren: Jesse Hawkins (Emily), Shaughnessy Hawkins (Edmund), Daniel Marczak (Leigh), Jordan Marczak (Renee), Amanda Hoelscher (Scott), Justin Hoelscher (Katie) and three great grandchildren: Peter Hawkins, Sophia Marczak and Ella Marczak.

For many years Marie worked as a bookkeeper for Weidner Farms Inc. a family- run poultry farm and most recently for a local family business and friend. 

Marie was known for her kind heart and generous spirit helping many family members and friends throughout her lifetime. In fact, she was known as “my other mother” to Terri, Debbie and many others.  She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered for her compassion, strength in faith, sense of humor and unconditional love of her family and friends.  She enjoyed quilting, theatre and music (especially Harry Belafonte), travelling, reading, her weekly card games and her trips to the casino.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Saints Peter and Paul Hamburg Outreach Center (sspphamburg.org) or the Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org).  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave., Hamburg, NY 14075. A Memorial Mass will be at 12 noon on Sat. Oct. 28, 2023 at SS Peter & Paul Church, 66 E.
