Smerka, Michael K.

Age 85, of Hamburg, New York passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023.  He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda F. (nee Fattey) Smerka; dear children Kenneth (Jamie-Lynn) Smerka and Jill M. Slighter; cherished grandchildren Brittanie S. (Dave Dudek) Smerka, Bryce C. Smerka (Chase Klos), and Justin Slighter; a dear great-grandson Ashton Shaw along with many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his loving parents Michael and Theresa (nee Fitzery) Smerka, and his dear sister Patricia (late Ray) Barco.

Michael was a 1956 graduate from Burgard Vocational and was employed at the Local #7 Union, Buffalo, NY as a Boiler Maker Welder. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builder, Blacksmith, Forgers & Helpers, AFL-CIO Lodge 000007. He proudly served in the US Army. In his spare time, Michael enjoyed watching classic car shows on TV, spending time with his German Shepherds, and cheering for his three favorite teams: the NY Yankees, Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabers.

Calling hours are from 4-7 PM on Thur. Oct. 5th at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave., Hamburg, NY, followed by a Memorial Service.  Flowers are gratefully declined.
