James M. Schunk

June 16, 1939 – June 17, 2024

James “Jim” M. Schunk, 85 of Boston, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 16, 1939, in Boston, NY, the son of the late Norman and Eleanor (nee Thiel) Schunk. He married Gloria Janosz in July of 1962 in Elma, NY.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Gloria Schunk; two loving children, Debra (James) Bielawa and Martin Schunk; five cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica), Justin (Meghan Pellegrino) and Jessica Bielawa, Cory and Connor Schunk; a brother, Jerome (Barbara) Schunk; he also survived by many nieces & nephews and great-nieces & great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Jim was a lifelong area resident of Boston, NY. He attended Hamburg High School and then completed an apprenticeship for carpentry. He was a proud member of the Buffalo Union Carpenters, retiring in 2001.

Jim was a craftsman who worked on many side jobs and projects for family and friends. He had a reputation as being able to fix anything. He was well known for his great sense of humor, and he loved spending time at the family cottage at Snyder Beach. Jim was able to create a final family memory by partaking in his 85th birthday celebration. Sadly, his passing occurred less than 24 hours later. He will be dearly missed by all.

Relatives and friends may call at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave. Hamburg, NY on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held at the convenience of the family and will be private. Flowers are gratefully declined.
