1928 – 2024

Henry Charlap, age 95, of N. Boston, NY, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Henry was married for 60 years to the love of his life, the late Esther J. (nee Gostomski) Charlap. He is survived by his dear children, Kathleen (Joseph) Golabek, Karen Ann (David) Kashino, Nicholas P. (Marybeth) Charlap and Christina (Kevin Kretz ) Charlap; five adoring grandchildren, Jared, Amy, Damian (Brittany), Derek, and Mackenzi; a precious great-grandson, Henry; a beloved sister, Irene (late Lou) Fronczak; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was born on June 27, 1928 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Nicholas and Josephine (nee Mrugala) Charlap. He is also predeceased by his brother Richard (Marie) Charlap.

Henry graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1946, Buffalo, NY and then proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. Upon returning home, he earned both a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University and a Master’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Massachusetts.  He became a prominent local business man who worked in the family business, Charlap’s Dairy Farm, Inc., for many years until becoming the owner in the early 1960’s. 

Henry and his wife were faithful members of the SS Peter & Paul RC Church for 60 years.  He played baseball in college, bowled on a local league, he liked ice fishing and tobogganing in the winter and boating in the summer with his family.  And every day at 4 PM. Henry loved to celebrate “tini time” with a martini.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave., Hamburg, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 22nd at  SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 66 E. Main St., Hamburg, NY at 12:00PM, followed by a private burial at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.  Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial contributions in Henry’s honor can be made to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
