Samuel J. Vernon, Jr., age 68 of Hamburg, NY passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, with his family at his side, following a brief illness. He was born in Buffalo, NY on December 18, 1955, the son of the late Samuel J. Sr. and Elizabeth (nee Koester) Vernon. He is survived by his loving children, Laura (A.G.) Kruger and Jacob “Jake” Vernon; two cherished grandchildren, Geo and Marina Kruger; three dear brothers, Rick (Linda), Ron (Sue) and Russ (Terry) Vernon; also, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Gary Vernon. Sam attended Hamburg High school and then proudly served his country as a US Marine. He worked for Cassens Transport in Niagara Falls, NY. Sam loved stock car racing, and he was the crew chief of the “Jake Vernon Racing Team”. He was a volunteer fireman for the E. Eden Fire Dept. and a member of the Hamburg American Legion Post # 527. The family will host a Celebration of Life on Monday, Sept 30th at 6:30 PM, they will receive friends prior starting at 5 PM at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave. Hamburg, NY. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.
